Lord Ganesha: The Remover of Obstacles

Ganesha, also known as Ganapati and Vinayaka, is one of the most revered deities in Hinduism. He is worshipped as the god of beginnings, the patron of arts and sciences, and the deva of intellect and wisdom. The tale of his elephant head is a fascinating mix of divine intervention and cosmic humor. There are variations, but one of the most popular narrates how Parvati, Ganesha's mother, created him from the turmeric paste she used for bathing. She tasked him with guarding her door, and when Shiva, her husband, tried to enter, Ganesha, unaware of Shiva's identity, prevented him. Enraged, Shiva severed Ganesha's head. Parvati was inconsolable, and Shiva, realizing his mistake, promised to revive Ganesha by replacing his head with the first living creature he found facing north. That creature happened to be an elephant. Thus, Ganesha gained his iconic elephant head.
