Vishnu: The Sustainer of the Cosmos
In the Hindu Trimurti, Vishnu holds the vital role of Preserver, tasked with maintaining the cosmic balance. When dharma (righteousness) declines, Vishnu incarnates in various forms (avatars) to restore order and vanquish evil. These incarnations are legendary tales, each a testament to Vishnu’s commitment to upholding the universe. Some of his most famous avatars include Rama, the righteous king, and Krishna, the divine strategist.
Vishnu is often depicted with four arms, each holding significant emblems. One hand typically holds the conch shell (Shankha), symbolizing the origin of sound and creation. Another carries the discus (Chakra), representing the mind and the destruction of ego and ignorance. A lotus flower (Padma) is often present, signifying purity and spiritual unfoldment. Finally, a mace (Gada) represents power and strength. Note that in this statue, the deity is presented with a Chakra, Padma, Gada, and his fourth hand is positioned in blessing.
