When Hiranyakashipu challenged Prahlada to prove Vishnu's presence, Vishnu manifested as Narasimha – neither man nor beast, appearing at twilight (neither day nor night), at the threshold (neither inside nor outside), and placing the demon on his lap (neither earth nor sky), Narasimha tore the demon apart, fulfilling the conditions of the boon while upholding dharma.
