On a lotus pedestal, Murugan appears as an ever-youthful divine, supporting his Vel and Dhwaja (spear and flag), while raising his hands in Varada and Abhaya mudra.

He is flanked by Devasena on his left and Valli on his right- distinguished by the Kuchabandha or breast-band which is an ornament for the primary or senior wife in the ancient iconography of Chola bronzes (Devasena in this composition).

The Divine Trio: Karttikeya, Devasena, and Valli

This exquisite Panchaloha bronze sculpture captures a divine tableau, bringing the celestial realms into your home. At its center stands Lord Karttikeya, the valiant commander-in-chief of the gods, the son of Shiva and Parvati, and the god of war and victory. His commanding presence is palpable, embodying strength, courage, and righteous fury. He is depicted with multiple arms, each holding symbols of his divine power and his legendary battles against the demon Taraka. His posture exudes readiness, a testament to his eternal vigilance in protecting the cosmos from evil. Flanking the radiant Karttikeya are his consorts, Devasena and Valli. Devasena, the daughter of Prajapati, represents divine power and is often depicted with Karttikeya as his celestial wife. Valli, the daughter of a hunter, symbolizes earthly love and devotion, whom Karttikeya won through his valor and charm. Their graceful figures, adorned with intricate jewelry and flowing garments, complement the central deity, signifying the harmonious union of divine and earthly love, and the balance of power and compassion. The artist has meticulously rendered their expressions, radiating serenity and devotion. ––––––––––

Craftsmanship and Spiritual Significance

This magnificent piece is a product of the revered Madhuchista Vidhana, also known as the lost-wax casting method. This ancient technique, passed down through generations of master artisans in Swamimalai, a renowned center for traditional bronze sculpting in Tamil Nadu, India, involves creating a wax model of the deity, which is then encased in clay. The clay mold is heated, melting the wax and leaving a hollow cavity. Molten Panchaloha – an alloy of five sacred metals (typically gold, silver, copper, zinc, and tin) – is then poured into this cavity. Once cooled, the clay is broken away, revealing the intricate details of the cast bronze statue. The resulting artwork is a testament to the skill, patience, and spiritual devotion of the craftsmen. The Panchaloha metal itself is imbued with spiritual significance, believed to possess unique energetic properties that enhance the sanctity of the idols. This collection embodies the very essence of devotion and artistic excellence, making it a profound addition to any sacred space or discerning collection. The intricate detailing, from the divine weapons held by Karttikeya to the delicate ornamentation adorning the goddesses, speaks volumes about the dedication to preserving age-old artistic traditions and the profound respect for the divine figures they represent. This set is more than just a decorative item; it is a conduit to spiritual energy and a symbol of auspicious beginnings and unwavering protection.
