White Tara, an enlightened Buddha, vowed as a young bodhisattva to perpetually manifest in the form of a female bodhisattva and goddess in the future, dedicated to benefiting all beings and offering protection from the eight fears.

Her right hand gracefully assumes the mudra of supreme generosity, with the third finger touching the thumb, symbolizing the union of wisdom and compassion, while the three extended fingers represent the Three Jewels of Buddhism: the Buddha State, the Body of Teachings (Sangha), and the Principles of the Universal Form (Dharma). This hand also cradles the stem of a lotus, symbolizing transformation, with the lower part of the stem representing the lotus's root in the mud. The Lotus signifies growth emerging from obscurity into the radiant light. Draped in exquisite silk garments, adorned with various jewel ornaments, White Tara sits in a vajra posture, with the palms of her hands embellished with the eyes of awareness.

Embodiment of Compassion and Longevity

This exquisite brass statue captures the serene presence of White Tara, a revered goddess in Tibetan Buddhism, known as the "Mother of Liberation" and the embodiment of compassion, longevity, and protection. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail in Nepal, this 8-inch sculpture is a testament to the rich artistic traditions and spiritual devotion that define Himalayan artistry. White Tara is often depicted with a radiant white complexion, symbolizing purity and healing. She is believed to have emerged from a tear of Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, highlighting her profound connection to alleviating suffering in the world. Her form is graceful and youthful, radiating a gentle yet powerful energy.

Iconography and Symbolism

The iconography of this White Tara statue is deeply symbolic. She is shown seated in the vajra posture, a symbol of stability and enlightenment, with her right leg pendant, signifying her readiness to descend and offer assistance. Her right hand is extended in the gesture of *varada mudra*, the boon-granting gesture, indicating her ability to bestow blessings and fulfill wishes. Her left hand, resting on her knee, holds the stem of a lotus flower, which blossoms above her left shoulder. The lotus symbolizes purity, spiritual growth, and the unfolding of wisdom. White Tara is often associated with the white lotus, further reinforcing her connection to purity and enlightenment. She is adorned with elaborate jewelry, including a crown, earrings, necklaces, and bracelets, signifying her celestial status and divine nature. The intricate detailing on her robes and the decorative base speak to the mastery of the craft and the reverence with which she is depicted.

A Source of Solace and Spiritual Practice

In Tibetan Buddhist traditions, White Tara is invoked for a variety of purposes. She is a powerful protector against fear, illness, and obstacles, and practitioners often pray to her for long life, good health, and wisdom. Her mantra, "Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha," is chanted for purification, healing, and the removal of inner and outer disturbances. Having a statue of White Tara in one's home or meditation space is believed to invite her benevolent presence, fostering an environment of peace, tranquility, and spiritual well-being. This brass representation, with its serene expression and graceful posture, serves as a focal point for devotion and a constant reminder of the boundless compassion and protective energy that White Tara offers to all beings. This piece, originating from Nepal, carries with it the spiritual resonance and artisanal excellence of this sacred land.
