Because of the presence of the Sesh Naga emblem as the central picture on the lamp, this brass Shodash Upchara lamp is also known as a Nagadipa. These lamps are known as Anasaka because the oil basin is gone and the arch has five apertures to accommodate the elongated cotton wicks saturated in oil or ghee. The flames are extinguished immediately following the procedure. The arch is also known as the Torana. These lamps are revolved clockwise or in the Om form during the second part of the regular sixteen-step Shodash Upchara. The picture of a Prabhavali created by the light with the wick burning behind the back has been popularised since the 16th century Nayaka period.

A Symbol of Divine Protection and Auspiciousness

This exquisite brass lamp is a stunning representation of the divine serpent, a powerful symbol deeply revered in Indian culture and mythology. Crafted with intricate detail, it evokes a sense of ancient tradition and spiritual significance, making it a perfect addition to your home altar or sacred space. The detailed scales of the cobra are meticulously rendered, showcasing the artisan's skill and dedication to their craft. The serpent's hood, fanned out protectively, is a classic depiction often associated with guardianship and warding off negative energies.

Mythological Resonance and Spiritual Significance

In Hindu mythology, serpents, or Nagas, hold a profound place. They are often depicted as divine beings, guardians of treasures, and associated with water, fertility, and cosmic energy. The Naga is also intimately linked with Lord Shiva, who is often adorned with a serpent around his neck, symbolizing his control over primal forces and his ascetic nature. The Sheshnag, the cosmic serpent on whom Lord Vishnu rests, represents eternity and the cyclical nature of existence. This lamp, with its serpentine motif, can therefore be seen as invoking these powerful divine energies, offering protection, prosperity, and a connection to the cosmic flow of the universe. The offering of light, symbolized by this lamp, is a fundamental aspect of worship across many traditions, signifying knowledge, enlightenment, and the dispelling of ignorance.

A Statement of Devotion and Artistic Beauty

This piece transcends mere utility; it is a work of art that speaks volumes about devotion and aesthetic appreciation. The gleaming brass material lends an air of timeless elegance, catching and reflecting light beautifully, enhancing the spiritual ambiance of any room. The design incorporates small bells, adding a subtle auditory element that can further enhance the meditative experience during puja. The traditional craftsmanship evident in this lamp ensures that it is not only a functional item but also a beautiful artifact that can be admired for its artistry and the rich cultural heritage it represents. Whether used in daily rituals or as a decorative piece, this serpent lamp is sure to be a cherished item, bringing a touch of divine grace and artistic splendor into your life.
