In the Southern Part of India, Lord Vishnu is worshipped as Ranganatha. Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple or Thiruvarangam is a Hindu temple, which is dedicated to Ranganatha. In Sanskrit, Ranganatha means “Leader of the place of assembly”. The Word Ranganatha is coined from the two Sanskrit words Ranga (Place) and Natha (Lord or leader).

In this magnificent creation of Bronze, Lord Vishnu, the preserver and sustainer of the universe, relaxing on the coils of Ananta (the World Snake). This iconic depiction symbolises the cosmic order and the cyclical nature of creation, preservation, and destruction. Bhagwan Vishnu’s repose represents the state of cosmic equilibrium, suggesting that even in apparent rest, He remains vigilant and in control. The Eternal Slumber of the Preserver

Immerse yourself in the divine tranquility of Lord Vishnu, the Supreme Being and Preserver of the Universe, in his iconic Ranganatha form. This exquisite bronze statue captures the very essence of cosmic repose, portraying Vishnu reclining serenely upon the coiled coils of the divine serpent, Shesha Naga. Shesha Naga, the king of all nagas, serves as Vishnu's celestial bed, a symbol of eternity and the boundless expanse of creation upon which the universe rests. The intricate detailing of the serpent's scales and the divine canopy of its hoods, spread protectively over Vishnu’s head, speak of the meticulous craftsmanship and the profound reverence imbued in this piece.

A Deity of Cosmic Balance

Lord Vishnu, revered as the sustainer, is depicted here in a posture of profound meditation and rest, yet ever vigilant. His four hands hold symbolic attributes: the conch (shankha) representing the primordial sound of creation, the discus (chakra) symbolizing the cosmic order and time, the mace (gada) signifying strength and authority, and a lotus (padma) representing purity and spiritual awakening. The serene expression on Vishnu’s face, coupled with his relaxed posture, invites contemplation on the cyclical nature of existence – creation, preservation, and dissolution – all overseen by the divine hand of Vishnu. This form, Ranganatha, is particularly significant, often associated with places like Srirangam, where it is believed that Lord Vishnu continues his eternal slumber, dreaming the universe into existence.

An Emblem of Sacred Artistry

Crafted from enduring bronze, this statue is a testament to the rich heritage of Indian metal casting. The Panchaloha, or five metals, traditionally used in such divine iconography, imbues the artwork with both aesthetic beauty and spiritual significance. The warm, lustrous patina of the bronze highlights the subtle curves and powerful form of the deity, making it a captivating focal point for any sacred space or collection. This piece is more than just a decorative item; it is an invocation of peace, stability, and divine protection, a tangible connection to the timeless narratives of Hindu mythology and a celebration of unparalleled artistic skill. It serves as a reminder of the cosmic order and the ever-present grace of the Lord Vishnu. ––––––––––––––––––

Symbolism and Divine Presence

The reclining posture of Vishnu as Ranganatha is deeply symbolic. It represents the state of

, a divine sleep from which the cosmos emerges and into which it eventually dissolves. This is the state of ultimate relaxation and consciousness, where the Lord dreams the universe into being. Shesha Naga, with its thousand heads, is often seen as a representation of the infinite, the primordial energy that supports the entire universe. The intricate weaving of the serpent’s coils provides a stable and comfortable foundation, signifying the unwavering support and sustenance that Vishnu provides to all creation. The celestial abode where this divine slumber takes place is often described as the Ksheera Sagara, the Ocean of Milk, the cosmic ocean of consciousness. Owning this statue brings a sense of peace and a tangible connection to these profound cosmic principles, inviting the divine presence into your home and heart.
