An Emblem of Devotion and Divine Grace

This exquisite brass statue embodies the revered deity Khatu Shyam Ji, a beloved figure in Hindu tradition. Crafted with meticulous detail and imbued with the spirit of India, this handmade idol is more than just a decorative piece; it is a focal point for devotion, a symbol of hope, and a conduit for divine blessings. The rich, warm hue of the brass, achieved through traditional methods, lends an aura of timeless sanctity to this captivating representation. The statue depicts Khatu Shyam Ji in a seated posture, exuding an aura of serene power and profound compassion. His attire is adorned with intricate patterns, featuring layered garlands that cascade elegantly around his neck and chest. These garlands, rendered in exquisite detail, speak to the opulence and divine status of the deity. The craftsmanship is evident in every curve and contour, from the gentle expression on his face to the elaborate headdress that crowns his head, suggesting a royal lineage and divine authority.

The Legend of Khatu Shyam Ji

The story of Khatu Shyam Ji is a fascinating narrative rooted in the epic Mahabharata. He is believed to be Barbarika, the son of Ghatotkacha and grandson of the mighty Bhima. Possessing immense power and a divine boon that allowed him to witness any battle with his three arrows, Barbarika was known for his immense strength and courage. The legend recounts his encounter with Lord Krishna before the Kurukshetra War. When asked how he planned to use his arrows, Barbarika declared that with his first arrow, he would strike all the immortal beings on the battlefield. With his second, he would strike all the mortal beings. And with his third, he would strike himself if necessary. Impressed by his valor and foresight, Lord Krishna asked him if he would fight for the Kauravas or the Pandavas. Barbarika, true to his selfless nature, stated that he would fight for the weaker side. To ensure fairness and prevent him from inadvertently aiding the Kauravas with his formidable prowess, Krishna asked for a sacrificial offering. Barbarika, without hesitation, offered his own head. Krishna, deeply moved by his sacrifice, blessed him, stating that in the Kali Yuga, he would be worshipped as Khatu Shyam, the deity who blesses his devotees with courage, strength, and fulfillment of desires. His followers believe that by invoking his name, they can overcome obstacles and find solace and prosperity.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
