Ganesha: Remover of Obstacles

Lord Ganesha, easily recognizable by his elephant head, is one of the most beloved and widely worshipped deities in the Hindu pantheon. He is revered as the remover of obstacles, the patron of arts and sciences, and the deva of intellect and wisdom. His image is found throughout India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and even Southeast Asia. This handcrafted brass statue beautifully captures the essence of Ganesha, offering a tangible connection to his benevolent energy. He is often invoked at the beginning of new ventures, ceremonies, and projects, ensuring success and auspicious beginnings. His blessings are sought for prosperity, wisdom, and good fortune.

A Kingly Representation

This particular depiction showcases Ganesha in a regal pose, seated upon an elaborately crafted throne. His large belly, symbolic of abundance and the universe itself, is gently draped with flowing garments. His four arms hold significant emblems: One hand offers blessings, *abhaya mudra* granting reassurance and protection from fear. Another holds a *laddu*, a sweet symbolizing the rewards of spiritual seeking and the sweetness of life. His third hand carries a battle axe, the fourth carries a cup of ambrosia. The axe symbolizes the cutting of bonds of worldliness, and the ambrosia is a symbol of immortality. The attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the sculpture, from the intricate carvings on the throne to the delicate features of Ganesha's face. A tiny mouse, Ganesha's vahana (vehicle), is seated at the base, symbolizing humility and the ability to overcome even the smallest obstacles.

The Story of the Elephant Head

The tale of Ganesha's elephant head is one of the most fascinating and well-known myths associated with him. There are several versions of the story, but the most common involves Lord Shiva inadvertently beheading Ganesha, who was created by Parvati to guard their home. Inconsolable, Parvati demanded that Shiva restore Ganesha to life. Shiva, unable to find Ganesha's original head, instructed his ganas (attendants) to bring him the head of the first creature they encountered facing north. They returned with the head of an elephant, which Shiva then used to revive Ganesha. This story, while seemingly bizarre, symbolizes the power of divine intervention and the ability to overcome even the most seemingly insurmountable challenges.

Crafted with Devotion

This exquisite statue is a testament to the skill and artistry of Indian artisans. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted from brass, a metal revered for its durability and its ability to conduct positive energy. The process involves traditional techniques passed down through generations, ensuring that each statue is a unique work of art. Displaying this statue in your home or office is not only a beautiful aesthetic addition, but also a powerful reminder of Ganesha's blessings and the potential for overcoming obstacles in your own life. The statue invites you to seek his blessings, offering a tangible focal point for prayer and meditation.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
