The union of the powers of Brahma-Vishnu-Mahesha, Lord Dattatreya in Hinduism represents a balance of the three aspects of life- creation, preservation, and destruction and thus is revered as the manifestation of the supreme truths of existence and the foremost Guru. This bronze statue presents Sri Dattatreya standing atop a grand platform, on an inverted lotus pedestal, in his Shadabhujadhari or six-armed roopa. He is accompanied by four shwan or dogs who represent the four Vedas and the Gau mata who is mother earth herself, finding refuge in the benevolent presence of Dattatreya.

Symbolism and Iconography

Lord Dattatreya is depicted with a serene countenance, his multiple faces radiating an aura of profound peace and wisdom. He is traditionally accompanied by symbols that further illuminate his teachings and nature. The presence of a cow, the sacred Kamadhenu, signifies nourishment, abundance, and the fostering of life. Beside him, the two dogs represent his constant vigilance and his unwavering companionship on the spiritual path, often interpreted as the Vedas or the purity of devotion. In his many hands, he holds various attributes: a conch shell, a discus, a rosary, and a trident, each representing different aspects of his divine power and spiritual disciplines. This intricate symbolism invites contemplation and deepens the devotee's understanding of Dattatreya's role as a guru, healer, and protector.

A Legacy of Spiritual Guidance

The worship of Dattatreya is deeply rooted in various spiritual traditions, particularly in Maharashtra and South India. He is revered as the Adi-Guru, the primordial teacher, who imparted profound spiritual knowledge to humanity. Tales abound of his travels and his teachings, often delivered through parables and the wisdom derived from observing nature. His philosophy emphasizes the interconnectedness of all beings and the realization of the divine within oneself. This statue serves as a powerful reminder of these teachings, an object of veneration that can inspire spiritual growth and inner peace in any space it adorns. ––––––––––
