This slightly swaying image of the Buddha, with a mildly smiling face and elongated earlobes, stands with the right hand lowered in the Varada (wish-granting) mudra and the left holding the folds of his monastic robe. Tiny snail-like curls make up his hair, topped with the cranial protuberance known as ‘ushinsha’, symbolising highest wisdom.

The monastic robe, covering both his shoulders is almost diaphonous, clinging closely to his body contours, fully revealing the sinuous form beneath. This lengthy, single drape cascades down the Buddha’s back like a cape.

At the centre off his forehead can be seen a small, flowing mark known as the ‘urna.’ It depicts the Buddha’s inner eye, symbolising his enlightened state of being.

The Enlightenment of the Buddha

This exquisite brass statue of the Buddha embodies the serenity and wisdom of the awakened one. Standing at a commanding 22 inches tall, this piece is a testament to the enduring power of Buddhist teachings. The figure is depicted in a graceful pose, radiating an aura of tranquility that invites contemplation and inner peace. The intricate details, from the gentle curve of the lips to the delicate folds of the robe, are meticulously crafted, showcasing the artistry of skilled artisans who have preserved ancient traditions. The captivating duality of silver and bronze tones adds depth and complexity to the piece, further enhancing its visual appeal and spiritual resonance. The statue's elegant design and fine craftsmanship makes it a perfect addition to any home, office, or meditation space.

Symbolism and Iconography

The Buddha's serene expression reflects the culmination of his arduous journey to enlightenment. The raised right hand symbolizes the *abhayamudra*, or gesture of fearlessness, offering protection and reassurance to all beings. The left hand gently holds a *vajra*, a powerful symbol representing the indestructible nature of truth and the unshakeable power of the awakened mind. In many Buddhist traditions, the *vajra* is also associated with the thunderbolt of Indra, the king of the gods in Hinduism, symbolizing the shattering of ignorance and illusion. This juxtaposition subtly acknowledges the connection and evolution of spiritual thought across cultures and time. The flowing robe, partially silver and partially bronze, might represent both the worldly and spiritual aspects of existence, harmoniously interwoven. The detailed carvings along the robe’s edges further enhance the aesthetic beauty, mirroring the intricate nature of Buddhist philosophy.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.
