The calm, gathered Shakyamuni, seated under the Bodhi tree. Resplendent gold complexion, expressive of the superior mind attaining moksha within. A regally handsome face, so much so that the birds on the Bodhi tree are turned towards Him, as if seeking the intangible.

This seated Buddha murti comes in 2 colour finishes. One features a solid gold colour palette, while the other is clad in a strikingly coloured robe of molten crimson. In the case of the latter, the same colour has been introduced in the lotus throne as well as in the canopy.

Note the lotus blooms dangling from each lobe of the Buddha’s ears. In Hindu-Buddhist culture and iconography, lengthened earlobes are a sign of age and wisdom; whereas the lotus flower, of compassion and enlightenment.

The Enlightenment's Embrace

This remarkable statue encapsulates a pivotal moment in the life of Siddhartha Gautama, the historical Buddha, and the birth of Buddhism itself. It invites contemplation on the core tenets of the faith: wisdom, compassion, and the path to enlightenment. Every detail, from the serene expression on Buddha's face to the intricately rendered Bodhi tree behind him, speaks to a profound spiritual awakening. This is more than a decorative piece; it is a tangible representation of the moment of liberation. The left hand of the Buddha is raised in the vitarka mudra, the gesture of teaching and intellectual argument. It signifies the transmission of knowledge, the dispelling of ignorance, and the encouragement of rational inquiry, a central tenet of Buddhist philosophy. This is the moment he begins to teach the world the path to liberation from suffering. In the other hand, he is holding the alms bowl, a reminder of his renunciation of worldly possessions and his commitment to a life of simplicity and detachment. He sits in the lotus position, the padmasana, an asana often assumed for meditation.

Under the Bodhi Tree

The significance of the Bodhi tree, depicted in elaborate detail behind the Buddha, is central to the story of enlightenment. It was beneath this sacred fig tree in Bodh Gaya, India, that Siddhartha Gautama meditated and achieved enlightenment. Legend tells of Mara, the demon of illusion, who attempted to distract him with temptations and threats, but Siddhartha remained steadfast, finally overcoming all obstacles to attain perfect understanding. The Bodhi tree became a symbol of this ultimate triumph over worldly attachments and the realization of ultimate truth. Two birds are seen here perched within the tree, a reminder of the peace and harmony that are associated with enlightenment. The statue's artistic choices reinforce its spiritual significance. The use of brass lends a sense of timelessness and permanence, as though capturing the essence of an eternal truth. The contrast between the golden hue of Buddha's face and the darker tones of his robe adds depth and visual interest, drawing the viewer's eye and inviting closer inspection. The pedestal upon which Buddha sits, meticulously adorned with lotus petals, represents purity, spiritual awakening, and faithfulness. The lotus emerges from muddy waters, a powerful metaphor for the potential for enlightenment to blossom even in the midst of suffering and worldly challenges.

A Legacy of Wisdom

Owning this statue is an invitation to bring the spirit of enlightenment into your home or workspace. It serves as a potent reminder to cultivate inner peace, practice mindfulness, and strive for a deeper understanding of yourself and the world around you. It is a symbol of hope, resilience, and the transformative power of wisdom. More than that, it is a piece of art that embodies thousands of years of cultural and spiritual heritage. Let this beautiful statue act as a guide and a source of inspiration on your own path to enlightenment, helping you to cultivate compassion, wisdom, and inner peace.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • Another way is to cleanse the statue with mild soap, warm water, and a cotton cloth. You must go to every inch of the statue and even to the crevices and cracks. After this, clean the article with a dry towel to wipe off pools of water left on the surface.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
