Gold-Eyed Nandi Head

$328
Includes any tariffs and taxes
Nandi is a revered figure in Indian culture. As the mount of none other than Lord Shiva Himself, He is a rugged and powerful beast. Yet, His heart brims forth with love and devotion for Him and all that He presides over. In fact, He is to be found at the door of every Shiva temple or at the foot of most Shiva and Shivaparivar murtis. He has the strength and the resolve of a thousand earthly bulls. The sculpture you see on this page is the singular head of this extraordinary, divine animal.

It is sculpted from brass, and comes with a richly dyed finish. Note the well-defined silhouette: the sharp angle between the flat bones of the taurine face, the tender curvature of the ears, the powerful stature of the horns towering on either side. Against the charcoal of Nandi’s skin lies bands of tinkling gold shringar. The carefully sculpted eyes and horns are of the same gold colour. The bitone colour palette and the sharp silhouette make for a minimalistic devotional composition.

A Divine Visage: The Embodiment of Strength and Devotion

Bring a touch of sacred grandeur and enduring symbolism into your home with this exquisite brass Nandi head. This striking piece is more than just a decorative item; it is a powerful representation of devotion, strength, and purity, imbued with the rich cultural heritage of India. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, this wall hanging mask captures the serene yet formidable presence of Nandi, the celestial bull who serves as the vehicle and chief attendant of Lord Shiva. The artistry of this Nandi head is evident in every curve and contour. The primary material, brass, lends a timeless quality and a satisfying weight to the piece, promising durability and a patina that will deepen with age, telling its own story. The dark, lustrous finish of the main body provides a dramatic contrast to the gleaming gold accents that adorn its features, most notably the piercing, watchful "gold eyes" that give this piece its name. These golden embellishments extend to the majestic horns, the decorative band around the forehead, and the intricate patterns framing the large, expressive eyes. A crescent moon symbol, a direct allusion to Lord Shiva’s iconography, graces the forehead, further cementing its divine connection. The overall impression is one of regal dignity and unwavering loyalty.

Echoes of Mythology and Sacred Significance

In Hindu mythology, Nandi is a paramount figure, revered as the guardian of Kailash, Lord Shiva's abode. He embodies strength, courage, and unconditional devotion. Tales speak of Nandi's role in carrying Shiva and Parvati, his unwavering vigilance, and his ability to discern true devotees. The bull, in many cultures, is a symbol of fertility, power, and grounding energy. This Nandi head, therefore, is not merely an effigy but a conduit for these powerful energies. Displaying it is believed to bring protection, stability, and good fortune to a household. It serves as a constant reminder of the virtues of steadfastness and pure devotion, inspiring those who behold it.

An Artful Addition to Your Sanctuary

This substantial brass Nandi head is designed to be a focal point, whether mounted on a prominent wall or incorporated into a curated collection of spiritual art. Its dimensions are thoughtfully balanced to create an impactful presence without overwhelming a space. The intricate craftsmanship, combined with the profound spiritual resonance of Nandi, makes this piece a captivating addition to any living room, meditation space, or entryway. It is a testament to the skill of Indian artisans and a beautiful way to infuse your environment with a sense of sacred tradition and artistic excellence. Let this golden-eyed Nandi head stand as a guardian and a source of inspiration within your home.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
