A Sculpture of Compassion and Swift Aid

Within the rich tapestry of Tibetan Buddhism, few figures are as beloved and accessible as the embodiment of active compassion. This meticulously crafted statue, rendered in brass with exquisite silver and copper inlay, captures the essence of a Bodhisattva who is always ready to assist those in need. Place this beautiful representation within your home or meditation space as a reminder of the potential for swift, compassionate action within yourself and in the world. The figure’s posture is distinctive, seated in a lotus position, a symbol of purity and transcendence, with the right leg slightly extended. This seemingly small detail is profoundly significant, reflecting readiness to spring into action to alleviate suffering. The gentle hand gestures (mudras) further convey profound meaning, inviting contemplation and connection. The elegant ornamentation, carefully inlaid with silver and copper, speak to the dedication and artistry poured into the creation of this sacred object. Its dimensions are 10.6 x 8.0 x 6.4 inches.

The Myth and Meaning of Green Tara

Legend tells of a Bodhisattva who vowed to continue to reincarnate as a woman until all beings were enlightened. She is often associated with Avalokiteśvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion. According to one tale, she sprang forth from a tear shed by Avalokiteśvara as he wept over the suffering of the world. This tear fell to the ground and transformed into a lotus flower, from which she emerged. Unlike some deities who represent distant ideals, she is seen as a protector and guide who is readily accessible to those who call upon her. Her green color represents youthful vigor and activity, symbolizing her quick response to prayers. She is especially invoked for overcoming obstacles, providing protection from dangers, and granting success in all endeavors. In Tibetan Buddhism, she is also associated with prosperity, good health, and longevity. She is considered the mother of all Buddhas, representing the feminine aspect of wisdom and compassion.

Devotion and Placement

This statue can serve as a focal point for personal practice, a reminder of the qualities of compassion and swiftness of action that we can cultivate within ourselves. Whether you are a seasoned practitioner or simply someone drawn to the beauty and symbolism of Tibetan art, this exquisite brass representation will be a cherished addition to your home. Display on an altar, shelf, or meditation space, and let its serene presence inspire you on your path.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
