An Embodiment of Serenity and Enlightenment

This exquisite brass statue captures the essence of a Tirthankara, a spiritual teacher and a ford-maker in Jainism, guiding souls across the ocean of existence. The figure stands in the iconic Kayotsarga posture, a stance of meditation and detachment, with arms hanging loosely at the sides. The serene expression on the face, with downcast eyes and gently closed lips, conveys profound peace and inner stillness. Every detail, from the intricate curls of the hair to the subtle musculature of the body, is rendered with meticulous care, reflecting the spiritual significance and artistic tradition behind its creation. The Tirthankaras are revered as perfected souls who have attained liberation and shown the path to others. In Jain tradition, there have been twenty-four Tirthankaras in each cosmic cycle. The first Tirthankara was Rishabhanatha, also known as Adinatha, who is often depicted in this standing posture. The very first Tirthankara, Lord Rishabhanatha, is believed to have taught humanity the arts and sciences, including agriculture and writing, thus laying the foundation for civilization. Each Tirthankara is associated with specific symbols, though this particular representation, with its graceful form and tranquil demeanor, is universally recognized as embodying the highest spiritual ideals.

A Symbol of Divine Purity and Asceticism

The flawless form of the Tirthankara symbolizes the purity and detachment from worldly desires that are central tenets of Jain philosophy. The unclothed nature of the figure represents complete renunciation, a state of being free from all material attachments and illusions. This stark portrayal emphasizes the spiritual journey towards omniscience and liberation, where the physical body is merely a vessel for the soul's ultimate transcendence. The gold-like sheen of the brass further enhances this divine aura, signifying prosperity, purity, and spiritual radiance. The detailed, multi-tiered pedestal upon which the figure stands adds to the monumentality of the piece. Intricately carved floral motifs and geometric patterns adorn the base, symbolizing the blooming of spiritual understanding and the orderly structure of the cosmos. This ornate base contrasts beautifully with the simple, unadorned body of the Tirthankara, highlighting the focus on inner divinity rather than external adornments.

Artistry and Devotion in Brass

Crafted from high-quality brass, this statue is a testament to the enduring artistry of Indian metalwork. The sculptor has skillfully brought to life the sacred form, infusing it with a palpable sense of divinity. The smooth, polished finish of the brass gives the statue a warm, inviting glow, making it a captivating centerpiece for any altar, meditation space, or sacred collection. The traditional casting techniques employed ensure that this piece carries not just aesthetic value, but also a deep cultural and spiritual heritage. Owning this statue is akin to inviting a profound sense of peace, wisdom, and spiritual guidance into your home.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
