The Legend of Kaliya

The once-clear waters turned black, and all who drank from it, including the animals, suffered greatly. The fear of Kaliya permeated the land, and the villagers lived in constant dread. The boy Krishna, known for his divine powers and playful nature, saw the suffering of his people and resolved to end Kaliya's reign of terror. He fearlessly leaped into the poisoned river. Kaliya, enraged by the intrusion, attacked the young boy, coiling around him in an attempt to crush him. But Krishna, the embodiment of divine strength, began to expand, forcing Kaliya to release him. What followed was a dance of epic proportions. Krishna, with his celestial grace and power, began to dance upon the serpent’s many heads. Each step of the dance was a blow to Kaliya's pride and power. The serpent, weakened and defeated, finally surrendered. Upon the pleas of Kaliya’s wives, Krishna spared the serpent’s life, but banished him from Vrindavan to an island in the sea, thus restoring the Yamuna to its purity and the villagers to peace.
