Lord Hanuman is the Hindu god of strength, celibacy, knowledge and bhakti; he serves as the best companion of god Rama and the central character of Ramayana. Here in this sculpture Hanuman stands on an inverted lotus pedestal and thick floral carved prabhavali that enhances his essence of divinity. Lord Hanuman’s dedicated and selfless service to his guru, Lord Rama is very well known by the entire universe; garbed in a short length pleated dhoti with his sacred weapon gada in his hand, he teaches all to work for good and abolish the evil.

One of the most striking aspect of the sculpture is the distinctive carving of his crown that reminds us of South Indian temple structures. If you look carefully at the sculpture, you will realize that not only Hanuman himself, but everything also associated with him in this sculpture focuses on the mantra of ‘good over evil’, as on careful observation, you will realize that even the enchanting prabhavali behind the Lord is in the shape of Hanuman’s weapon gada (mace), sleek at the bottom and gumbad like while ascending upward.

A Symbol of Devotion and Strength

Embodying unwavering devotion and immense strength, this exquisite Panchaloha bronze statue captures the essence of Lord Hanuman, the revered deity known for his unparalleled loyalty and power. Crafted with meticulous detail by master artisans of Swamimalai, a region renowned for its ancient bronze-casting traditions, this sculpture is a testament to centuries of artistic heritage. The Panchaloha, a sacred alloy of five metals, imbues the statue with a unique brilliance and enduring quality, making it a cherished piece for any devotee or art connoisseur.

The Mighty Hanuman

Hanuman, the son of Vayu, the god of wind, is a central figure in the epic Ramayana. His extraordinary feats, including leaping across the ocean to Lanka, carrying the Sanjeevani herb to save Lakshmana, and setting Lanka ablaze to intimidate the Rakshasa army, are celebrated in folklore and scripture. He is revered as the epitome of selfless service, courage, and devotion to Lord Rama. This standing depiction showcases Hanuman in a posture of readiness, with one hand raised in a gesture of blessing or assurance, and the other holding a mace, his iconic weapon symbolizing his might and authority.

Artistic Brilliance and Cultural Significance

The `Prabhawali`, the ornate arch surrounding Hanuman, is a significant element in South Indian temple art, representing the divine aura and the celestial sphere. Its intricate carvings of floral motifs and decorative patterns add a layer of majesty and grandeur to the sculpture. The base of the statue is equally detailed, often depicting lotuses, a symbol of purity and spiritual awakening, reinforcing the divine nature of the deity. The craftsmanship evident in the musculature, the ornamentation, and the facial expression speaks to the profound understanding of iconography and aesthetics possessed by the Swamimalai artisans. Owning such a statue is not merely acquiring a decorative item, but inviting a powerful spiritual presence into your home, a constant reminder of the virtues of faith, strength, and selfless dedication. This piece serves as a focal point for prayer, meditation, and a tangible connection to the rich tapestry of Hindu mythology and devotion.
