The Swift One: A Radiant Embodiment of Compassion

This exquisite brass statue captures the essence of Tara, a revered figure in Tibetan Buddhism, often referred to as the "Swift One" for her ability to quickly grant aid and protection. Her form is depicted with a captivating grace, standing poised on a lotus pedestal, a symbol of purity and spiritual unfolding. Her posture suggests readiness and dynamic energy, with one leg slightly bent as if prepared to stride forth and offer solace to those in need. The artistry of this piece is remarkable, showcasing the traditional craftsmanship that imbues such sacred objects with profound spiritual significance. Tara's serene countenance, framed by an ornate crown, speaks of deep wisdom and boundless compassion. Her jewelry and attire are rendered with intricate detail, reflecting the opulence and divine nature attributed to this bodhisattva. The flowing silks draped around her, some adorned with delicate patterns, create a sense of movement and ethereal beauty.

The Legend of Tara

The mythology surrounding Tara is rich and multifaceted. One widely told tale describes her emergence from a tear shed by the compassionate bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, who wept at the suffering of the world. From this tear, a lotus flower bloomed, and upon opening, revealed Tara, radiating pure light. She vowed to dedicate herself to alleviating suffering and guiding beings towards enlightenment. Her name itself, "Tara," is believed to derive from the Sanskrit root for "to cross over," signifying her role in helping devotees traverse the ocean of suffering. She is particularly known as the "Mother of all Buddhas," embodying the wisdom and active compassion that are fundamental to the Buddhist path.

Symbolism and Iconography

In this representation, Tara holds a lotus flower in her left hand, a significant emblem of her purity and enlightenment. The lotus, rooted in muddy waters yet blooming vibrantly above, symbolizes the attainment of spiritual awakening while remaining engaged with the world's challenges. Her right hand is often depicted in the gesture of giving refuge (abhaya mudra), offering protection and dispelling fear. The intricate carving and the dual-toned brass contribute to the statue's depth and visual appeal, highlighting the divine radiance of Tara. This piece serves not only as an object of devotion but also as a powerful reminder of the ever-present force of compassion and the possibility of liberation.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
