A Bodhisattva of Boundless Compassion

This exquisitely crafted brass sculpture depicts a revered figure within the Tibetan Buddhist pantheon – Chenrezig. Chenrezig, also known as Avalokiteśvara, embodies the boundless compassion of all Buddhas. He is the bodhisattva who vowed to postpone his own enlightenment until he had helped every sentient being achieve liberation from suffering. This vow and dedication make him one of the most beloved and venerated figures in Tibetan Buddhism. Chenrezig's essence is intrinsically linked with the mantra "Om Mani Padme Hum," which is often translated as "Hail to the jewel in the lotus." This mantra is not simply a string of words; it is considered the embodiment of Chenrezig's compassionate energy and the essence of his teachings. Chanting this mantra is believed to invoke his blessings and connect one to his compassionate nature.

The Form of Shadakshari Lokeshvara

The specific form portrayed in this sculpture is that of Shadakshari Lokeshvara, meaning the "Lord of the Six Syllables" – a direct reference to the Om Mani Padme Hum mantra. This manifestation of Chenrezig is often depicted with four arms, each holding symbolic objects. In this representation, the central two hands are pressed together in the Anjali Mudra, the gesture of prayer, reverence, and devotion. This mudra symbolizes the inherent potential for enlightenment that resides within each individual. The upper two hands hold a mala (rosary), and lotus stem. The figure is seated in the lotus position (Padmasana) atop a lotus pedestal, representing purity and spiritual awakening. The lotus grows from muddy waters but remains unblemished, symbolizing the ability to rise above suffering and attain enlightenment. This lotus base is intricately detailed, reflecting the artistic skill and reverence with which the sculpture was created.

Crafted with Devotion

This brass sculpture stands as a testament to the rich artistic traditions and profound spiritual beliefs of Tibetan Buddhism. Its creation is a process often undertaken with great mindfulness and intention, reflecting the sacred nature of the deity it represents. Displaying this piece in your home or meditation space serves as a reminder of the power of compassion, the path to enlightenment, and the interconnectedness of all beings.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
