The Essence of Compassion and Longevity

Within the rich tapestry of Tibetan Buddhism, certain figures stand out as beacons of compassion, wisdom, and the potential for enlightenment. Among these is White Tara, revered as a Bodhisattva embodying purity, peace, and longevity. Depicted with serene grace, she is a manifestation of enlightened activity, actively working to liberate beings from suffering. Her presence invokes a sense of calm, offering solace and the promise of a long and fulfilling life, both materially and spiritually. Crafted from brass, this sculpture embodies the skillful artistry passed down through generations. Each detail, from the intricate folds of her robes to the serene expression on her face, speaks to the devotion and dedication of the artisans. Accents of silver and copper inlay highlight specific elements, adding depth and visual interest, reflecting the divine nature of the Bodhisattva. She is a testament to the enduring power of faith and the pursuit of enlightenment.

Myth and Meaning

Legend has it that Tara emerged from a tear shed by Avalokiteśvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, who was overwhelmed by the suffering of the world. From this single tear grew a lotus, and from that lotus arose Tara, vowing to tirelessly assist Avalokiteśvara in alleviating the pain of all beings. As White Tara, she represents the feminine aspect of wisdom and compassion, embodying purity and the power of healing. She is often depicted with seven eyes: the usual two, a third eye on her forehead, and one on each palm and foot. These seven eyes symbolize her ability to see and respond to suffering in all realms of existence. She is ever-watchful, extending her compassionate gaze to those who call upon her for help. The lotus flowers she holds, symbols of purity and spiritual awakening, further reinforce her connection to enlightenment and her unwavering commitment to the welfare of all.

A Symbol of Hope and Healing

This exquisite statue is more than just a beautiful object; it is a powerful symbol of hope, healing, and the potential for spiritual growth. The traditional iconography serves as a potent reminder of the Bodhisattva's unwavering commitment to alleviating suffering and granting long life. It acts as a focal point for meditation, a source of inspiration for cultivating compassion, and a beautiful expression of devotion. Place it in your home or meditation space as a reminder of the boundless potential for love, wisdom, and enlightenment that resides within us all. It is a tangible representation of the possibility of living a life filled with purpose, meaning, and unwavering compassion.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
