This exceptional wood carving of Bhagawan Ganesha in vintage finish, three feet in height but immeasurable in its magnificence and grandeur, defines his Vira Ganapati – the ‘valiant warrior’ form, one of his initial thirty-two classical forms which early texts, the eighth century Maudgalya Purana in special, have identified or conceived.

Though exceptionally beautiful and endowed with divine aura, Vira Ganapati, primarily a votive form conceived as standing and in readiness to proceed to a target, is broadly a dynamic form having a commanding posture.

In plasticity, precision, minuteness of details, especially in designing the massive mandala of arms around him and in creating the desired effect, especially the majestic bearing, the artefact is simply unparalleled. With sixteen arms stretched on both sides, each holding a different implement, the image acquires a circular form and is thus suggestive of cosmic dimensions which Lord Ganesha pervades.

Vira Ganapati is a form which is both the remover of obstacles and the harbinger of good, the valiant warrior Ganesha, fights out obstacles and effects good, prosperity, and success. In his form as Vira Ganapati, Lord Ganesha is both, the protector and the promoter of his devotees.

Introducing the Valiant Vira Ganapati

This magnificent wood carving depicts Vira Ganapati, a powerful and awe-inspiring form of Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed god revered across India and beyond. Unlike the more commonly depicted Ganesha with two arms, this statue showcases the deity's valiant aspect, adorned with an impressive array of multiple arms, each holding a symbolic object, reflecting his mastery over various aspects of life. The intricate details of this handcrafted piece truly capture the grandeur and majesty associated with this potent manifestation of the remover of obstacles. The rich, warm tones of the wood, accented with meticulously applied colors, showcase the skill of the artisan, blending tradition and artistry into a breathtaking piece. The statue measures an impressive 37.5 x 27.0 x 8.3 inches, commanding attention and adding a profound spiritual presence to any space.

The Mythology of Vira Ganapati

Ganesha, the son of Shiva and Parvati, is one of the most beloved deities in the Hindu pantheon. He is widely known as the remover of obstacles and the bestower of good fortune, often invoked at the beginning of any new venture. Vira Ganapati, however, represents a particularly powerful and fierce aspect of the god. The multiple arms symbolize his immense strength and capacity to overcome any challenge. Each hand might hold a different weapon or tool, representing his dominion over various realms, suggesting his mastery and authority to conquer any obstacle. This form is often depicted with a radiant aura, reflecting his divine energy and ability to dispel darkness and fear. While Ganesha is usually depicted as jovial and benevolent, Vira Ganapati highlights a protective and formidable side, a guardian who defends his devotees from harm. This powerful aspect is often invoked in times of adversity or when one needs exceptional strength and courage.

Craftsmanship and Artistic Detail

The craftsmanship evident in this Vira Ganapati statue is truly exceptional. Carved from high-quality wood, the statue showcases exquisite detail in every aspect: from the delicate folds of the clothing to the intricate carvings of the various objects held in each hand. The aged finish contributes to the statue’s timeless quality, enhancing its antique-like appearance. The artistry is evident in the graceful lines, the expressive features of the face, and the overall sense of balance and harmony. The meticulous painting is equally striking, with the use of muted yet rich colors further enriching the visual appeal of the piece. The choice of earthy and golden tones underscores the sculpture’s connection to nature and the enduring nature of tradition. The statue stands elegantly on a sculpted base, completing the overall aesthetic and providing stability.
