This sari, 6 Mts. in length, replete with a golden thread woven piece for the blouse is a mix of silk and cotton which is as exotic as the mix of bright purple and magenta. Of unusual color, the field of the sari has scattered butis (small floral motifs). The border has a design woven in supplementary warp or weft threads, creating a band of patterning, with alternate floral motifs. The pallav or the end piece has an unusual pattern of pillared arches encompassing a plant having flowers, leaves and buds, the presentation of which is lyrical but the discipline of the pattern is not disturbed. Two tiers of this pattern are divided by a band of the border design which also appear at both the ends of the pallav.
The cotton-silk combination has lowered the cost of this beautiful piece but increased its durability and ease of maintenance and draping. The golden thread woven pattern (reminiscent of zari), however, retains the distinctive style and design associated with Benaras silk weaving. The recommended style of draping it would be the 'seedha palla' where the end piece falls from back to front across the right shoulder. This displays the exquisite beauty of the pattern and the weavers skill as well.
