Superfine needles with a rudimentary crochet at one end are used by local Kashmiri artisans to create this superbly beautiful embroidery. The continuous chain stitches of the motifs - you could zoom in on the same to appreciate the high-precision handiwork - are supported by a number of smaller, straighter stitches underneath, which puts this work in the broad category of crewel embroidery. The colour palette is distinctly youthful and natural, and traces of matching coloured makeup on the phase would best serve to bring out its beauty.
