Hanuman is a famous character from the Ramayana, appearing in the Mahabharata as well, and he is the premier Monkey God of Hindu culture. The picture or statue of Lord Hanuman should not be kept in the bedroom. It should be either in the puja area or at the South outside but in a sacred place (not in a toilet or bathroom). Saffron is the favorite color of Lord Hanuman. To please him soon, one should offer saffron or a red flag to him, especially on Purnima. 'Red' Hanuman is smeared with sindoor (vermilion). Once he saw mother Sita smearing red vermilion on her forehead and on being told by her that Rama was very pleased with it, out of his pure love and devotion towards his Idol Ram, he applied sindoor on his whole body and started dancing.
That's why traditional idols of Lord Hanuman are found smeared with sindoor. If one offers Sindoor to Hanuman or smears it on his body, he grants whatever has been wished for.
Lord Hanuman's picture or statue is excellent to keep off negative energies. If someone is scared of ghosts or evil forces, he must keep the Panchmukhi (five-faced) Hanuman over the main door of his residence, which is visible to all.
The presence of this idol of Hanuman in the house removes the blocks to progress and the house becomes prosperous. Just chant “Shri Rama”, and Lord Hanuman is all ours, He is just a breath away from us and always protects us.
Lord Hanuman is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva. The son of Kesari and Anjana, Hanuman was born on the full moon day during the Hindu month of Chaitra on a Tuesday. Hence, devotees worship Sri Hanuman on Tuesdays and Saturdays also. He is easy to worship and gets pleased easily.
Worship rituals:
He is offered Tulsi leaves, dhoop sticks, Akshat (rice grains), applied a Chandan tilak, Prasad of jaggery and Grams, five Jasmine or Chameli flowers, and recites the mantra, ‘Om Ham Hanumate Namah at least 108 times. Read the Hanuman Chalisa and do the Hanuman Aarti. Many devotees observe Vrat (fast) and read the Sundarkand of Ramayana aptly to get His blessings.
