Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada was an Indian spiritual leader and the founder of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), also known as the Hare Krishna movement.

Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada was a student of the well-known Vaishnava teacher Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur when he was born in Calcutta, India, as Abhay Charan De. He arrived in America in 1965, at the age of 69, and established ISKCON with the mission of advancing Krishna bhakti, or devotion to Lord Krishna, as well as the Bhagavad Gita's teachings.

More than 80 volumes on spirituality were written by Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, including translations and commentaries of the Srimad Bhagavatam, the Bhagavad Gita, and other Vaishnava classics. As the foundation of ISKCON's devotional practises, he also created a thorough system of spiritual ceremonies and practises, including the chanting of the Hare Krishna mantra.

ISKCON expanded into a worldwide organisation with thousands of members and countless temples and centres thanks to Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada's leadership. He emphasised the value of maintaining a basic and austere way of life, engaging in acts of kindness and compassion for all living things, and practising devotion to God.
