It is well known that Jaswant Singh Kanwal contributed to Punjabi literature. His 1985 novel "Akhan Waris Shah Nu" won the Sahitya Akademi Award, one of several important honours he has received. Additionally, he has received the Shiromani Sahitkar Award and the Punjabi Sahit Rattan Award.

These books examine issues including caste prejudice, societal injustice, and the decline of cultural values in modern society.
