The Directorate of Archaeology & Museums in Karnataka completed a century of its existence in 1985. Several activities to celebrate its centenary were planned during 1985. One of the programmes was to hold a National Seminar on Archaeology to highlight the contribution of Karnataka to the over all make up of Indian culture through its various Projects and programmes. Therefore, a National Seminar on Archaeology was conducted between 22nd and 24th of December 1985, at Mysore. The themes of the Seminar consisted of archaeological activities such as Explorations, Excavations, Researches in Epigraphy, Numismatics and Art & Architecture.
In this first Volume, we are presenting 36 papers primarily consisting of archaeological researches. The various papers deal with stone-age. neolithic, Iron-age cultures, pre-historic art and early historic settlements including contacts with the Roman World.
