I am happy to bring out the English version of the book entitled Ayurvediya Aushadhi Prayoga Vijnana which is written in accordance of syllabus of NCISM, BAMS course, second professional out lined in Paper-1 dealing with the subject matter of Rasa shastra and Baishajya kalpana. The subject Rasa shastra and Bhaishajya kalpana is an important part of Ayurveda.

As per the need of time to make some addition in the current teaching and learning process of Rasashastra & Bhaishajya kalpana to make it more relevant, practical as per contemporary requirements new teaching technology tools will certainly be helpful in the effective delivery of knowledge of Rasa shastra & Bhaishajya kalpana. As per the revised regulation, the title of the Paper-I is Ayurvediya Aushadhi Nirmana Vijnana which is to be taught in Second Professional BAMS course.

To achieve the programme outcome of the Professional BAMS course of NCISM, the subject Rasa shastra and Baishajya kalpana contributes a lot by providing thorough multidimensional knowledge in cognitive domain, hands on training of pharmaceutical processing in Psychomotor domain and ethical attitudes towards drug development in affective domain, also pharmaceutical processing of Ayurveda medicines and Research updates of concerned topics.

Bheshaja is an important part in Chikitsa chatushpada. Prepared personally or purchased or prescribed, the medicines must be potent. Identity, Purity, Quality, Stability, Safety and Efficacy all these factors must be assessed carefully so that extensive therapeutic utility without any adverse drug reaction can be achieved. Education of subject Rasa shastra and Baishajya kalpana i. e. Paper-1, Ayurvediya Aushadhi Nirmana Vijnana must provide foundation in Yogavijnana through guidance for students. According to Charaka samhita the Vaidya should have characteristics i.e. Yuktijna, Siddhahasta, Sarvabhaishajya kovid.

Inorder to produce such Ayurveda physicians as an outcome of studying the subject through this book an effort is made by me to design and write the subject matter according to syllabus. This could be first book of this kind in English language made available for the benefit of the BAMS students, M.D. (Ayu) scholars and the persons working in research of Ayurveda.

The details belongs to Rasa Bheshaja Yogas in relation with Ingredients, Method of preparation, Shelf life, and Route of administration, Anupana etc are well explained in this book as per the syllabus. Acquiring details of the topics outlined in the syllabus along with practical application with understanding its significance is the course objective of the subject Rasa shastra and Bhaishajya kalpana. The main Goal is to cater professional competency in Rasa shastra and Bhaishajya kalpana and make the students capable to select proper/effective yoga and administer it safely with this aim this book was written and composed,

In this edition I have tried my level best by incorporating the subject matter of Rasa shastra & Bhaishajya kalpana as per new NCISM syllabus for facilitating students to learn the subject properly and easily and get connected with present global needs. For effective content delivery to create interest in the subject it becomes evident to teach Rasa shastra&Bhaishajya kalpana with practical demonstrations. In order to facilitate proficiency in pharmaceutical preparation and its application in clinical practice wherever required explained the subject matter with relevant colour Photographs and research updates for enhancing professional competency in Ayurvedic pharmaceutics and make the Ayurveda physicians capable to select proper and effective Rasa Bheshaja Yoga and administer it safely.

I am happy because this comes from the pen of mine being a scholar of Rasa shastra and Bhaishajya kalpana I have devoted my life in study of this subject i.e. Rasa shastra and Bhaishajya kalpana and Ayurveda as a whole intensively from various angles and thereby using my skills and expertise of Ayurveda formulations achieved by me may be visible in this book.

I am presenting the English version of this book entitled Ayurvediya Aushadhi Prayoga Vijnana expecting that it would go a long way in enriching the Therapeutic armamentarium of the Ayurveda Physician.

My object of this adventurous task of preparing a critical edition of Ayurvediya Aushadhi Prayoga Vijnana in English is to draw the attention of the scholars towards the topics mentioned in the syllabus of the concerned subject.

If anybody finds mistakes in this book, I welcome whole heartedly for their positive suggestion and obelised. There is no last word in the realm of knowledge and I share my humble sentiment that there is always scope for improvement.

I am very happy to learn that the English of text book entitled Ayurvediya Aushadhi Prayoga vijnana written by Dr. K. Rama Chandra Reddy, Senior Profes sor, Department of Rasa shastra and Bhaishajyakalpana, Faculty of Ayurveda, IMS, BHU which contains the subject matter of Rasa shastra and Bhaishajyakalpana. The subject Rasa shastra and Bhaishajyakalpana is an important part of Ayurveda which is dealing with collection, procurement of raw materials, processing of Ayurveda medicines, standardization and quality control parameters, study of their pharmaco-logical actions along with their therapeutic applications.

The system of Ayurveda, although at present mainly confined to India and some neighbouring countries like Nepal, Srilanka etc. had a much wider recognition and prevalence in the past, since the time start of Human civilization and Vedic period. This system has undergone many vicissitudes in the course of its long and cherished history. Moreover, it still remains the mainstay of Medical relief to the majority of the people in this country. The extensive use of herbs, minerals and animal products has recently attracted international attention at large towards Ayurveda. In modern context it is necessary to standardize the formulations for the prupose of maintaining their quality, reproducibility and efficacy.

The present book i.e. Ayurvediya Aushadhi Prayoga Vijnana which covers the new NCISM syllabus of BAMS course of II Professional belongs to subject Rasa shastra and Bhaishajyakalpana. The book is written as per the syllabus outlined in Paper-2, Ayurvediya Aushadhi Prayoga Vijnana.

The contribution of Dr. K.R.C. Reddy in the field of Rasa shastra and Bhaishajyakalpana is commendable. The best fruits of his multidimensional intellectual labour are to be found in his present interpretation of book ie. Ayurvediya Aushadhi Prayoga Vijnana work which in its own right, ranks as the gretest legacy.

I hope this book will gretly benefit the BAMS students, M.D. Ayurveda scholars, Ph.D. scholars and researchers.
