Banabhatta (Makers of Indian Literature)
Banabhatta (Makers of Indian Literature)
Description
About The Book:

Banabhatta is the celebrated author Kadambari and Harshacharita, masterpieces in Sanskrit literature. Though his supremacy as a grand stylist, as a master over the elaborate phrase and poetic image, has never been questioned, his habitual sublimity of style, his very forte, has been an impediment to a just appreciation of his works.

This monograph is a modest attempt to remove hindrances to the enjoyment of a great epic stylist, a sublime poet in prose, a visionary ranging his eye across climes and lives, a humanist with a profound message to mankind.

Though the book is mainly designed for the general reader scholar also may find it of refreshing interest.

About The Author:

Dr. K. Krishnamoorthy (b. 1923) has been head of the Post graduate Department of Studies in Sanskrit, Karnatak University, Dharwar, and has published, among others, first ever critical editions of Dhvanyaloka (1974) and Vakroktijivita (1976) with complete English translation, and Essay in Sanskrit Criticism, (2nd Edn. 1974), which was awarded Sethu Parvati Prize, Kerala University.

His other important publications are: Kalidasa (1972), The Dhvanyaloka and its Critics (1968) which was awarded Mysore University Golden Jublee Research Prize, and Studies in Sanskrit Aesthetics and Criticism (1976).

He has also translated over fifty classics of Sanskrit Poetics and Literature into Kanada which have won him the State Sahitya Academy Award. He has contributed over 300 article reviews in English and Kannada to learned journals.

I’ve received the package 2 days ago. The painting is as beautiful as I whished! I’m very interesting in history, art and culture of India and I’m studing his civilization; so I’ve visited Rajasthan, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Kerala in theese years. I’m a draftwoman , so I like collect works of extraordinary arts and crafts of villages, that must be protected and helped. In a short time I’ll buy some others folk painting, as Madhubani , Kalamkari and – if it’s possible – Phad. In the meanwhile, I’m very happy to have in my home a work of your great artist. Namaste, Namaskara.
