This unique book highlights the works of great ancient Indian Maharishis whose immense contribution to the mankind has been eclipsed due to foreign rule in India for about 800 years. There was destruction of valuable literature and attempt to hide the greatness of Indian thinkers and philosophers. However, researchers like Bal Gangadhar Tilak found out the truth. In his words, 'Human races of earlier times have left ample evidence of their existence on the surface of this globe. Such evidence was found from excavation of sites, archaeological inscriptions, numismatics, ancient monuments, literature of the Brahmans, Jains and Buddhists, account of foreign writers, including Greek, Latin, and Chinese. In 1784, Sir Willium Jones, Chief Justice of Calcutta, who was a scholar, studied Sanskrit and declared its Importance. He established "Asiatic Society of Bengal" at Calcutta which gave impetus to research in ancient literature.
The book refers to the historical foundation for our country's name BHARATA in Rig-veda with its boundaries and mention of Bharat in VISHNU PURANA: 'Uttaram yet Samudrasya Himadreschaiva dakshinam Varsham tad Bharatam nama Bharati yatra santatih' which means that the country that lies north of the ocean and south of the snowy mountains is called BHARATA. Throughout, there has been a feeling of oneness of the country. Ramayana and Mahabharata were studied in every nook and corner of the country. Vedas were respected everywhere. Same applied to the other Sanskrit literature. Natural boundaries of BHARATVARSHA have remained unaltered for millennium because the unchangeable Himalayas in the North and Ocean on the other three sides have frustrated all human attempts at vivisection of a complete organic whole. Name 'India' became familiar to the West chiefly through Herodotus and other historians of Alexander's time. Name of the best-known district was applied to the whole country. Natural boundaries gave Indians time and leisure which helped them to probe deep into the Nature, Soul and God. India was international center of learning in ancient past.
Though there were at least ten famous international universities In ancient India during the period from 3000 BC to 1000 AD, but TAKASHSILA (Often called TAXILA) and NALANDA were most famous. TAXILA was a pre-Buddhist University set up in 800 BCE but during Buddhist period, it also became the center of Buddhist scholarship. It was situated in GANDHAR at TAKSHASHILA, a town located in the North-Western region in India (now in Pakistan). King BHARATA founded the town in the name of his son TAKSHA. Not only Indians students but students from as far as BABYLONIA, GREECE, ARABIA, SYRIA, PHOENICIA and CHINA also came to study in this University. 68 different streams of knowledge were on the syllabus. A wide range of subjects were taught by experienced masters. The minimum entrance age was 16. There were 10,500 students. The panel of Masters included renowned scholars like KAUTALIYA (The author of 'ARTHASHASTRA'), PANINI (The codifier of Sanskrit into today's form), JIVIKA (medicine) and VISHNU SHARMA (Author and Compiler of PANCHTANTRA). It had specialized in the science of Medicine. The University was destroyed by the Moghul invaders in 12th century at a time when Cambridge University was still being set up.
n the start of the year 2022, I received a greeting card by way of the I Hindu calendar from a gentleman in which the eminent Maharishis various fields of Medicine, Mathematics, Earth, Sun, Moon and other of ancient India were shown having made wonderful discoveries in subjects. The great Temples existing in the southern part of India were also depicted which were much better built from the angle of architecture, sculpture and look-wise more than even the Taj Mahal, Agra and the Red Fort, New Delhi. I was wonder struck to read the achievements made by our Maharishis in ancient India. I felt a sense of duty for making a deep search into this subject and present the same before the Nation. By making wonderful discoveries and great inventions, our Maharishis of ancient India, in philosophical sphere and in other sciences, raised the name of Mother India to the skies and enlightened the world. Especially, when the contemporary world has not yet woken up in these fields and there was no such activity anywhere in the whole world. It was a great wonder and that is why I used to hear that India was a VISHAWAGURU which Bharat again is going to be under the leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, His Excellency Shri Narendra Modi. Hence this book!
Ours is a country blessed by God. Bhagwan Shri Ram took birth on this land to fight the evil forces, and as we all know, that the said epic in which Bhagwan Shri Ram appeared on the BHARATA Sub-continent is called RAMAYANA. The next Yuga in which Bhagwan Sri Krishna sided with Dharma to destroy the Adharma is, as we all know is called MAHABHARATA. Every inch of our dear Motherland is worthy of worship as our great Maharishis, Sufi saints and our great Gurus have walked over this land across the country while communicating their Godly message to the people.
For considering how the name of our dear Motherland came to be Bharat, we find that the realm of Bharat refers to a legendary monarch who is supposed to have exercised universal sovereignty. The historical foundation for the name is found in the ancient Aryan tribe of Bharat who are well known in the Rig-Veda. The fundamentals of unity is emphasized by the name BHARATAVARSHA or the land of BHARATA. This word is also found mentioned in the Epics and in the Puranas. In the VISHNU PURANA, we come across the following couplet:
"Uttaram yat Samudrasya
Himadreschaiva dakshinam
Varsham tad Bharatam nama
Bharati yatra santatib.
(This means that the country that lies north of the ocean and south of the snowy mountains is called BHARATA. There dwell the descendants of BHARATA). A similar sense of unity of the country was always present in the minds of the theologians, political philosophers and poets who referred to 'thousand yojanas (leagues)' of land that stretch from the Himalayas to the Sea as the proper domain of single universal emperor.
The limits of this Continent Bharat-Varsha (before the creation of Pakistan) which is equal to the whole of Europe without Russia are for the most part, well defined by nature. On the north, it is almost completely cut off from the rest of Asia by impassable mountain range of Hills. Aryavarta, 'the country of the Aryans' is situated between the Himalayas to the Southern Sea and from the Eastern to the Western sea. This country was also known as the country of the holy sages b the name of BRAHMAVARTA (the Holy Land).
