In the first three volumes we discussed the great public sacrificial rituals, which were performed by the king and the high priest. In this 4th volume we will discuss the New and Full Moon Sacrifices, which were not only performed by the king. These sacrificial rituals of the New and the Full Moon were performed by the Brahman householders. For these rituals the knowledge of moving of the stars, the correct calculations of the New and Full Moon was of the greatest importance. The knowledge of the phases of the Moon is obviously very much ancient, because we have an archaeological finding of an ancient plate, which has an age of 32 000 years, found in France, where we can find the phases of the Moon noticed.
