Sri Sringeri Jagadguru Sachchidananda Sivabhinava Nrisimha Bharati Mahaswami of Sri Sarada Pitham made available to the world THE WORKS OF SRI SANKARACHARYA to enable earnest seekers to read them in the original Sanskrit. Sri T. K. Balasubramania Iyer, Vani Vilas Press, Srirangam published the Works in a magnificent 20-volume edition which went out of print long ago.
The idea of republishing that edition came from an inspiring command one night five years ago: "Publish Sankara". It gained force and gathered strength with the Blessings of Sri Sringeri Jagadguru Abhinava Vidyatirtha Mahasannidhanam and Sri Bharati Tirtha Sannidhanam of Sri Sarada Pitham. I cannot adequately express my gratitude to them.
COMPLETE WORKS OF SRI SANKARACHARYA being offered now is the revised reissue of the earlier edition, the texts having been rearranged including additional material. It is proposed to publish, in due course, the works of Sri Sankaracharya in bilingual editions-the original Sanskrit texts accompanied by translations in English and in other Indian languages.
The publication of this edition has been made possible by the generous gesture of Dharmatma Dr. V. Vaidyasubramanyam in presenting me with two sets of the precious first edition. I am grateful to him for his abiding interest and for securing the co-operation of the Vani Vilas Syndicate Limited.
I am thankful to all those who have encouraged me in this task. I wish to express my gratitude to Sri K. R. Ramachandran for his spontaneous help.
I take this opportunity to thank the management and the staff of All India Press for their meticulous care and dedication in the production of this and other Samata publications.
