About the Book
A Comprehensive History of Medieval India (1000-1750 CE) is a thought-fully written textbook designed for undergraduate students across Indian universities. Spanning over seven centuries, it explores the dynamic political, socio-economic, and cultural developments that shaped the Indian subcontinent between the early medieval and early modern periods. From the establishment of the Delhi Sultanate to the grandeur of the Mughal Empire and the eventual rise of regional powers, the book presents a balanced and nuanced account of the major dynasties, rulers, and events that defined this era. Written in clear and accessible language, the book is ideal for graduation-level students, particularly those engaging with the subject for the first time. The author adopts a structured approach that avoids academic jargon, focusing instead on explaining key themes and events in a manner that is easy to understand and remember. Rather than relying on primary sources, the narrative draws upon standard secondary works to provide a balanced, student-friendly overview of medieval India's rich and dynamic past. To support learning and examination preparation, each chapter concludes with solved very short answer-type questions that reinforce essential concepts. Long answer-type questions are carefully crafted to reflect university exam patterns and promote critical engagement with historical themes. To aid visual understanding and memory retention, the book also includes relevant maps and illustrations highlighting important events, territorial shifts, and cultural developments. These pedagogical features make the book both informative and practical for self-study and classroom use. Each chapter further includes a list of suggested readings to guide students toward deeper exploration of specific topics, fostering academic curiosity and providing a foundation for advanced study. Whether used as a primary textbook or a supplementary resource, A Comprehensive History of Medieval India (1000-1750 CE) serves as an ideal companion for students seeking a reliable, exam-oriented, and well-structured introduction to the rich and complex history of medieval India.
