W Then I first thought of writing a book, I didn't expect the overwhelming encouragement I received. The genuine support from the people around me became my greatest motivation. This is my very first work, begun in the latter half of 2024, and it exists because others believed in me before I fully believed in myself. I sincerely express my gratitude towards the following people:
To my core family who believed in me and supported me throughout.
To my friend Badri for sparing his valuable time in reading the manuscript and related suggestions.
To the editor for her valuable inputs in the editing of the manuscript.
To Krish and Hema for their continuous support in the entire process of publishing.
To the entire Garuda Prakashan team for their designated inputs in publishing the book.
To my other friends who became a part of this process unknowingly with their small inputs and belief in me.
And last but not the least, to you (reader) for sparing your valuable time in giving this book a read. I sincerely apologize if your sentiments have been hurt unknowingly by me by any of the words in the book. I didn't mean to do so.
I t was a serene winter night, and the air carried the soft rustle of leaves as Rose (25) and Hem (26) strolled down a quiet road, wrapped in the comfort of each other's presence. The night felt simple and perfect-until a small, warm glow from a nearby street vendor caught their attention.
"Hey, that's my favourite! Let's go eat a waffle," Hem said with childlike excitement.
"Sure. But I might look for something else to eat," Rose replied, scanning the small stall for options.
They walked towards the vendor and came to a stop. Rose's eyes searched for something other than waffles, but the menu was limited. With a subtle sigh, she stood beside Hem as he eagerly placed an order.
"I will eat two waffles today. I have such a craving," Hem said joyfully, his eyes twinkling. The vendor handed over two warm, golden waffles.
As the aroma of freshly baked batter filled the air, Rose playfully nudged Hem.
"Let me eat some," she said teasingly.
something stirred in Rose's heart. A quiet disappointment settled in as unspoken thoughts began to swirl.
Is he really so selfish that he won't even let me have a bite?
It's been five years... and he still acts like this? Doesn't he know by now that I was just teasing? I didn't want the whole thing... just a taste...
Within seconds, a storm of questions clouded her mind. But just as quickly, it passed. Hem, with a soft smile and warmth in his eyes, extended one of the waffles toward her.
"Take this dear, this tastes better than the first one," he said gently.
And just like that, her heart settled. The whirlwind of doubt faded as realization dawned. She had misunderstood him. Those thoughts were mere shadows, unnecessary and fleeting.
She smiled, took a bite, and felt a warmth deeper than the waffle's sweetness. A quiet understanding bloomed between them, unspoken yet complete.
Sometimes, time plays tricks on our minds, stirring doubts and distorting intentions. But destiny, with its gentle hands, often reveals the truth at just the right moment-reminding us that love, when tested and understood, becomes even more precious.
