This edition comes a decade after the first one and updates the available data. A lot has happened since then in India and the world of dinosaurs. Several new localities in Kutch (Kachchh), Meghalaya and Balochistan (Pakistan) have produced new dinosaurs and have demonstrated that a lot has yet to be learnt about prehistoric life on the Subcontinent!
Interest in dinosaurs has increased in the country and several new Natural History Museums and Parks have been established. The 'Dinosaurs of India' exhibit in the Government Museum, Sector 10, Chandigarh is focused on the subject and receives a good response from local schools and colleges. In addition, the Evolution Park with as many as 45 life-sized models of dinosaurs at the Pushpa Gujaral Science City, Punjab draws a lot of visitors. A Dinosaur Fossil Park featuring a variety of dinosaurian eggs and nests is being established at Bagh, Madhya Pradesh.
I wish to thank all those who have encouraged me to update the First Edition. My special thanks are to Prof. R.S. Loyal, Prof. R. Patnaik (Panjab University, Chandigarh) and to Dr. R.S. Khandpur and (late) Dr. V.N. Singh as many of the graphics in the current edition are based on the models and materials exhibited in science centres mentioned above, headed by them.
It is clear that people wish to know more about Earth history and the biodiversity that populated India.
