Book Description
About the CD

Music is an incredibly powerful channel for healing and experience the divine within us. World renowned scholar and sage from India, Swami Vivekananda said, “music alone can take you to the highest state of mind”. Chanting ancient mantras and prayers allows us to tune our whole being, mind, body, and spirit to the One Source, to the One God. “Kirtan” is a Sanskrit word for group musical expression of the Divine Spirit within. Traditionally, it is a call and response from where singer sings a line and the group repeats it. This way there are no verses to memorize and all can the worship.

The series “Kirtans”features the most popular and traditional kirtans. In essence, it is meditation (Jaap or Naam – Simran). Devotion (Bhakti) means intense longing and love for God. Kirtan is the expression of that longing. Kirtan singing inspires feelings of joy, confidence, satisfaction, inspiration and calmness. Singing and listening to it improves mental and physical health and relieves stress.

Practice of Kirtan – First, to perform Kirtan, it’s not necessary to be expert in various musical instruments, classical music or Ragas. Second, one does not need to be concerned about his voice or knowledge of music. Third, Kirtan is the complete involvement of the body, mind, and soul. Sincere participation in Kirtan takes you closer to the divine.
