Foreword
Th The Bhagavad Gita is one of the most widely circulated spiritual texts in the world, directed not towards any particular community, caste or country, but to humanity at large. Its teachings are universal and can help to spiritually guide genuine seekers regardless of which path they are following. Down the ages, from Adi Shanakara to Sri Aurobindo, great commentaries have been written on the Gita which, along with the Upanishads and the Brahm Sutras provide the three foundations of Vedanta. Thousands of other books have also been written based on the Gita and its teachings in all the languages of the world. In the present attempt, Rajiv Sachdev and Neeraj Gupta have chosen a few select verses from the Gita and presented them in an attractive manner. I am sure the book will be useful to spiritual seekers, wherever they may be, and I wish them well in their endeavors.
Preface
This book is about a life journey. The life's journey did not T start with this birth and is not going to end with death. It continues. It has been there for an undefined period-more than age of the Sun, Moon and Earth. We have always existed in some form or the other and we are always going to be there. Hence, comes up the curiosity of where we were and where we are going to be. Well no one knows some people do know, they are enlightened souls, they exist among us but they keep quiet and share it only with some pure souls dedicated to Lord. For others, the knowledge in scriptures is the guide. This book is based on Srimad Bhagavad Gita and on Hindu Scriptures. Bhagavad Gita is one rare scripture of Hinduism that got narrated by God so it has the messages for the humans with no interpreter in between. While the book is based on Hinduism, this book is widely read by people from all religions. Finally all of us terminate with the same God. We all draw energy from the same God. We are all children of the same God. We have seen Him in different forms at different times. But He always existed with us. He is as near as inside us and that is where the enlightened souls have met Him. He is so far that we will never reach Him if we are not pure and if we are not turning our journey in His direction. Where does the need come up for reading scriptures when people are intelligent and logical enough to decide what is right and what is not. Yes, there is a need; we are intelligent on the material journey, how to earn more, how to live better, how to make life more comfortable, how to do charity as we have more and how to respect views of learned and elders. All this knowledge is clouded with material attraction and pride Scriptures are scriptures, once you follow them you will discover how different your understanding of the rules of life was. That is what happened to Arjun. Bhagavad Gita was narrated by Lord Krishna to Arjuna and we today have the blessings to follow God's teachings. Bhagavad Gita was narrated over 5000 years ago in India in the battlefield of Kurukshetra. A Scripture revealed in the attlefield! Arjuna was an enlightened soul. He had won over sleep which means that he did not need sleep, and he actually did not sleep during the war that lasted for 18 days. Winning over sleep cannot happen with determination. Determination is there in many people on this earth but can they decide not to sleep? It happens with purity and blessing from the Goddess who monitors sleep. Arjuna with his physical body could ascend to Heaven and he brought many weapons for war from the Heaven. We do not see people having that level of God's blessings today that they can ascend to higher worlds with their physical body. Such God's blessings come only to purified souls advancing on a journey towards God's home. To such a soul, Lord Krishna questioned his knowledge about the rules of life and what one should do and what one should not do. God said that your knowledge and wisdom is clouded. If such a soul could be guided, we can understand that there is a much deeper need for guidance for all of us.
