The role of Pali is a crucial in the history and culture of India. Pali is a significant language for understanding the Theravada literature. The unparalleled words of Buddha are preserved in Pali literature. It preserves the Indian culture, hence an attempt to understand the Indian culture without the knowledge of Pal literature is a futile exercise. Pali is also an important source for understanding early Buddhist philosophy. Forgetting the Pali is a great loss for India, because Pali is our ancient language. Pali shows a dynamic role in the Linguistics of India, it preserves the treasure of vocabulary. Indian languages and literatures are influenced by Pali language and literature. The famous book 'Dhammapada' was composed in the Pali language. Not only for Buddhist philosophy and literature, being one of the ancient languages of India, Pali occupied a prominent place in the history of India. Through Buddhist literature, Pali reveals the most important incidents, which had occurred in India during Buddha's period and even later period. Thus Pali presents the Indian history from 6th century B. C. to 6th Century C.E.
