Dravidian Linguistic Association of India published Thiru Somalay's survey paper entitled 'European Impact on Modern Tamil Writing and Literature' in 1976. As it is found out of stock, the International School of Dravidian Linguistics took the initiative to reprint it by utilizing the grant received from the Director, Department of Tamil Development. Somalay's book is an outcome of papers presented in the Third International Conference - Seminar of Tamil studies held at Paris in 1972. These papers covers a wide-ranging area like Script, Printing, Lexicography, Linguistics and Textual Criticism, Tamil Prose before and after the European Advent, Dravidian consciousness, European impact on Modern Tamil Poetry and Modern Tamil Prose writing. The style of narration is quite impressive and fare. He could arrange the datas in a systematic way and present his findings. On the whole Somalay's work underlines the need of a detailed study on European impact on Dravidian Culture language and literature.
