Book Description
About the Book

The book presents the techniques which show you how to forecast upcoming trends and life events for yourself, friends and family, and astrological clients. Carol Rushman shares her method for astrological prediction, including:

  • The "Natal Promise" of the Birth Chart .

  • Secondary Progressions, including the Progressed Moon, and Progressed House Cusps.

  • Transiting Planets.

  • Lunations (New and Full Moons) and Eclipses.

This book is a step-by-step system for making predictions. Each chapter is a step in the process. After reading this book you will be able to predict major events such as marriage, and minor events like receiving a small gift. Real-life examples drawn from the author’s experience show you firsthand how to practice the art of predictive astrology.

    About the Book

Carol Rushman is a professional astrologer and serving on the boards of several major astrological organizations. She has appeared on television and radio shows. At present she is working on her new book on the astrology of relationships.

    Introduction

In thirty years of working as a professional astrologer, I find that the predictive part of astrology is by far the most exciting. There was a time when predictive astrology was not the thing to do. It was the 1970's and astrologers were using their expertise strictly as a psychological tool. Psychology is certainly important and interesting, and it definitely plays a very important part in what we do, but prediction is what clients want. I have many psychologists who come to me because they, too, want to know what’s going to happen. Astrology’s insight into the future is part of the intrigue and mystery that draws people to it. The most popular astrologers with great followings know how to make timely and accurate predictions.

When you are a new astrologer, there is nothing like making your first prediction. I can remember mine very clearly. I told a friend who was waiting to hear from a lover (she had not heard from him for five weeks) that word would come Thursday. When she called me that Thursday evening, I don’t know which of us was more amazed. He had called. There was no thrill quite like it. That was over thirty years ago.

In my intermediate and advanced classes, I ask students to make predictions for themselves for the coming week. I have them work with their own chart. Some weeks the students have only minor events to look at. Nonetheless, I encourage them to figure out something that’s going to happen. It may be an important phone call, or something as simple as someone paying them a compliment. It may just be a good hair day. But I want them to predict something, say it out loud, and then watch it happen. When it transpires, they are just as thrilled as I am.

Eventually, my students move on. In doing so they must decide what astrological system they will use. A personal method is essential in counseling clients. It gives astrologers a structure, congruency, and a consistency in their work. Clients appreciate all three. What is most important is that each astrologer be comfortable with his or her own system.

Perhaps because my Sun is in Virgo and I have Capricorn rising, I believe in structures and systems more than the average person. I believe astrologers must lay a firm foundation before they can teach or counsel, so I’m presenting this material in a very pragmatic manner. It doesn’t matter what particular system astrologers use, but they should have an outline that they faithfully follow if they are going to help their clients. It will make both the astrologer and the client feel secure.

It is also important that there be a beginning, a middle, and a conclusion to each counseling session. This is so both the client and the astrologer feel complete when the client leaves. I prefer my clients to consult with me just once a year because then every session is full and worthwhile. Only if there is an important issue during the year do I encourage them to come more often. I don’t want astrology to be a crutch for anyone. I think it is dangerous for astrologers to establish themselves as gurus or present themselves as people who have all the answers.

My system begins with the natal chart and with what I call the natal promise. The natal promise is the total of all the chart components that, when combined, show each life’s potential. All may not be realized. For example, a client’s natal promise might show the potential for several marriages, but he or she may choose to marry only once. But, it is in that potential—that natal promise—that all astrological predicting begins. Without an understanding of the natal chart and what it promises, predictions won't manifest.

Next, in order to time predictions accurately, astrologers must understand the psychological makeup of their clients, because people respond to energy differently and their profiles will show you the differences. The difference in consulting a predominantly fixed client compared to a cardinal one is enormous.

For timing, I use secondary progressions, which I outline below, with an added emphasis on the progressed Moon and the progressed house cusps. I look at progressed planets aspecting progressed and natal planets. I also do a lot of work with transits and stationing planets, with a special emphasis on the lunations (New Moons and Full Moons) and eclipses. This is my system, and it has served me well for three decades. I follow a logical order, which helps me feel organized and comfortable. I encourage each astrologer who reads this book to do the same. Again, here is my method:

    1. Natal Chart

I look at the natal chart to determine what drives each client. I look at his or her psychological makeup, which is indicated by the chart. I evaluate what is promised.

    2. Secondary Progressions

      a. The progressed Moon

      b. Progressed planets aspecting natal planets

      c. Progressed planets aspecting progressed planets

      d. Progressed house cusps aspecting both natal and progressed planets

    3. Transiting Planets

I look next at the movement of the planets through the signs and houses, and the aspects, or relationships, they make to the natal and progressed planets, with a special emphasis on the stationing planets.

    4. Lunations and Eclipses

The New Moons, Full Moons, and eclipses are extremely important in timing events and also in evaluating what a client is working on at the time of consultation. While this system is not complicated, it is thorough, and a competent astrologer can get what is needed for a good and accurate reading.

I think interpreting a chart is like playing the card game bridge. There are some very good bridge players who under- stand all the many tools and techniques, but they use only the very best ones. There are other bridge players who try to incorporate all of the conventions and techniques of the game, and end up confusing themselves and their partners. This can also be true of astrologers. I have seen astrology charts that had so much information written on them that I couldn’t read them. In my mind, a good basic understanding of astrology arid the aforementioned techniques is all that is needed. Good astrologers learn it all and then select the best system for themselves after much experimentation and research.
