About the Author Dr. Dilip Amin has a doctorate degree in Pharmacology and is a lifelong (42 years) researcher in the field of medicine. He has obtained six patents and has authored 23 scientific publications. Born in Gujarat, India, and domiciled in America, Dr. Amin has travelled to 35 countries to learn about different cultures and religions. He was the president of the Plymouth Balvihar, Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, USA, and is the founder of the Balvihar at Sanatan Mandir, San Bruno, California. Dr. Amin is also director of the Peninsula Multifaith Coalition in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is a certified speaker with the Islamic Networks Group, San Jose, California. He is a Dharma Ambassador and a member of the Hindu American Foundation Advisory Board. He is a jail chaplain and columnist for 'Patheos'.

Preface For most of my early life, religion was the least of my interests. However, that changed when my children reached marriageable age. Having grown up with a completely pluralistic faith, I find it difficult to understand the exclusivist thinking of others. I discovered that some proud Hindu relatives and friends, after religious conversion, had married Muslims through the Islamic Nikaah marriage or had married in Catholic churches after signing a marriage contract, to raise their children in the Christian faith only. They were reluctant to share more details with me and probably felt my inquiries were an invasion of their privacy. In search of the truth, instead of trying to learn locally, I decided to go international and founded a non-profit web forum Interfaith Marriage with Equality (InterfaithShaadi. org) in 2009. The website grew in popularity and now includes more than 25,000 comments reflecting the opinions, thinking and trends of today's generation. Although adolescents in interfaith relationships do not talk to their parents or best friends about their problems, they readily disclosed many minute details to me (under my alias "Admin"). This gave me the opportunity to understand the complexity of interfaith marriages and the pain people suffer because of an exclusivist religious ideology.

Introduction This book was written to promote equality within Hindu-Muslim marriages to achieve a long-lasting, happy married life. It illuminates the complexities of interfaith relationships for the benefit of interfaith couples and their parents. Through the tool of interfaith marriage, the author aims to promote religious pluralism and tolerance in this world. This book is more than a 'Hindu-Muslim Marriage for Dummies'. It includes relevant texts from the scriptures, historical perspectives, practical issues, laws governing interfaith marriages, and real-life experiences of hundreds of young people. As the world gets smaller, there are more face-to-face interactions between people from different backgrounds. This is leading to an increasing number of Hindu-Muslim marriages, and this trend is expected to increase in the coming years. Most interfaith conflicts occur only a few months before marriage or, in the worst cases, only a few days before the birth of a child. The goal of this book is to educate young adults so they can make informed decisions before choosing to live long married lives. It is easy for a religious leader to preach great sermons about Hindu-Muslim harmony. However, in the daily life of a Hindu-Muslim couple, it is quite difficult to find a middle ground between conflicting religious beliefs. Unfortunately, most Hindu-Muslim couples who are dating do not have sufficient knowledge about the intended spouse's faith, or even about their own faith.
