Book Description
About the Book
The incisive technique of Self-enquiry is succinctly presented with its paradoxes turned into tools for intuitive realisation. The mind enquires, "Who am I?" but the Self answers "I am I", for there is no mind! Doubt the doubter, seek the seeker, and renounce the renouncer for Truth to manifest. This powerful book is divided into three parts to tell you who you really are. Starting with simple but catchy Spiritual Stories, Ratan Lal prepares you for deeper understanding of The Ego and the Self leading you into The Essence of Bhagawan's Teachings.

Introduction
Sri Ratan Lal possesses a unique ability to articulate, in a clear and powerful manner, the fundamental principles that underlie the spiritual path known as Self-inquiry or Abidance in the self for some time now, he has given regular, hour-long, midmorning talks to aspirants form various overseas countries who are visiting the ashram of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. In so doing he has been delighting and enlightening devotees who have become serious and sincere about practising Baba's teachings. These talks, which are quite informal in their nature, normally take place in the beautiful garden area of the ashram, against a backdrop of magnificently-fashioned statues of the God form for each of the major religions of our day. Many of the national groups who request these talks are non-English speaking, and thus they provide their own translator. It is quite uplifting to witness the enthusiastic question and answer interplay that takes place on these occasions.

Foreword
This small book is another loving offering by the author at the Lotus feet of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. It is a summary of a number of talks given by him to overseas devotees of Bhagawan during the recent months at Brindavan and Prasanthi Nilayam. These were kindly compiled by Ms. Irene Larsen. TRUTH is one. It is "What IS" and "What IS" is "As It Is." Though simple by itself, people often have some difficulty in understanding it. The perception and cognition of all phenomena by the sentient being is made possible only in the presence of Consciousness, by a process of division into subject and object. However, this phenomenal Consciousness. Consciousness, which is not aware of itself in its unmanifested state, perceives itself as the phenomenal manifestation, as its own objective expression. Thus, the totality of all that exists is only that "ONE", consciousness. This truth is not easily understood by everyone; and the teachings of the Avatar, sages, and saints are of great help in this understanding process.

Preface
The greatest spiritual event of the twentieth century is the Advent of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. We will be celebrating the Seventy-fifth birthday of the Avatar this year (2000). During the last sixty years, after His announcement of His Avatarhood, Bhagawan has been engaged in teaching and answering the prayers of His devotees all over the world. A unique feature of His teachings is the universality of its appeal to people professing various faiths and catering to the needs of peoples at different levels of spiritual attainment. Spiritual aspirants can be classified into three categories. The first is like gunpowder, which will immediately burst into flames with the touch of a single spark of fire. The second category is like charcoal, which needs considerable fanning and blowing before it can catch fire and start burning. The third group is like freshly-cut tree trunks which need much splitting and drying before they can be set afire. The first group probably needs just stray incident to spark off the final attainment.
