There has been a persistent demand from the readers of ITIHAS for a comprehensive index of all articles published in the journal during the eighteen years of its purposeful existence. This issue has, therefore, been planned as a response to the repeated suggestions from many quarters. It provides not merely the author, title and subject-index but attempts also to furnish a gist of each article featured in the successive issues of ITIHAS over the years. It is our earnest hope that this special number will be found useful by regular readers and serious researchers.
With a view to placing in the hands of our esteemed readers this specialised issue, we have had to withhold the publication of many scholarly articles already received for inclusion in ITIHAS. These shall be published in our next issue when the journal reverts to its usual pattern and format.
