Foreword
The first set of Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Lectures delivered from 1967 to 1972 was published by the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in 1973. The Bhavan is now bringing out the Second volume of seven lectures covering the years 1973-79. The spectrum of subjects dealt with by the distinguished lecturers from India and abroad is wide and varied. The reader will notice the bias in these lectures towards science, which reflects Jawaharlal Nehru's deep interest in science as a force for modernization and the key to the solution of India's many problems.
