Book Description
About the Book
The monograph talks about Kunjukutti Thampuratti who lived in a generation where she had to fight for an individual's fundamental rights to begin with. Her participation in Kerala's social and gender reform can be easily read as one of the most active episodes in Kerala's contribution to the Indian National Movement. The social changes she brought forth in the Kodungallur district of Kerala greatly benefited in eradicating the caste and gender disparities and helped empower women. This happened when India was only taking her primary steps in eliminating caste and gender barriers in all walks of life. Her story has all the motivation that young India needs to understand and get inspired.

Preface
Kodungallur in the Thrissur district of Kerala is just like any other small-town buzzing with life. However, once we know the historical importance of the place, we will understand that it had some interesting components to mould our unsung female hero. The small town, now known as 'Kodungallur,' along with several other towns between Thrissur and Ernakulam district, has unearthed essential details of an ancient port town called 'Muziris.' Muziris, according to many old records which date back to 2000 to 3000 years, was one of the most important ports like Alexandria, which conducted lucrative trade relations with the powerful countries of that time. Kerala and the Central government have recently joined hands to start the Muziris Heritage Project to rediscover and unearth this port town's rich heritage.
