About the Book
In India, The Land of Contrasts, Sri Sathya Sai Baba teaches that both education and medicine are a God-given right for all men and women, regardless of their financial status, caste, creed, race, or religion. In accordance with this philosophy, He has established The Sri Sathya Sai University and The Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medicine, offering superior educational opportunities and medical care for all, free of cost. Students are instructed in astronomy, mathematics, ecology, architecture and other subjects. From primary school through post-graduate study the educational program emphasizes the development of self-discipline and character, as well as the acquisition of knowledge and attainment of skills.
In this book, the author, a retired public school administrator, describes how Sai Baba provides a highly individualized learning program for each of His hundreds of thousands of devotees all over the world, relating her own challenges and the lessons she has learned in her eleven-year relationship with this unique spiritual preceptor.
Introduction
Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba is my Friend, Teacher, and Divine Parent. Millions of people all over the world consider Him to be the Avatar of this age, that is, an incarnation of God come for our benefit and blessing. I first learned about His presence on the earth in 1981, and my devotion to Him has increased steadily over the past ten years. In addition to keeping Him always in my heart, I have made eleven trips to see Him in India, and my life has been transformed.
This book is the second in a projected series of four. The first is entitled Life Is a Game, Play It! The third will be Life Is a Dream, Realize It! and the final volume in the quartet will be Life Is Love, Enjoy It! In an interview with Sri Sathya Sai Baba at His Ashram, Prasanthi Nilayam, on December 23, 1989, He instructed me not to waste my time, saying, "Time waste is life waste." He asked what work I did and I told Him that my chosen work was writing. He responded, "Then get busy. Get started on another book.
