Here is a series of "mental exercises" or examples of thought patterns one may use to ex-perience the depth, the richness, and the beauty of Raja Yoga. This, the most ancient of all the techniques of meditation, is now being taught once more by the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University. This meditation does not make use of the body at all, so these exercises may be done while walking or sitting, at work or at leisure, in the morning or at night. In fact, the aim should be to have such a light, relaxed, and powerful mood of mind all the time. When sitting in meditation, there is no need to close the eyes. Actually it is better not to. We must learn to hold this awareness while moving about in the world of action, when we need open eyes.
Commence with the first topic. Read slowly, thinking deeply over each aspect of knowledge. Try to experience the knowledge. Spend at least one half an hour on each exercise before moving onto the next. Spend maybe a whole day thinking deeply over just one of the exercises.
First I must have knowledge, as this leads to understanding. When I have understanding I should put it into the form of experience. This is, to see that knowledge and understanding evident all around me as I move through life. This experience leads to realisation. When I have realisation, then I know. Then, too, I have found the source of unlimited peace, joy, purity and power: God the Supreme.
