The iconic novel, Chander Pahar (Mountain of the Moon) by Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay, was originally published in Mauchak, the children's magazine, in 1935-36. It tells the story of Shankar, a daring youth from Bengal, who, captivated by the allure of the Dark Continent, embarks on a perilous journey with his companion Diego Alvarez, in search of a hidden diamond mine somewhere in the unknown terrains of South Africa.
