Preface
The purpose of writing 'Narad Sangeet Sarita Part II is to make all the students, the lovers of Music know about the basics of Indian Music of the past centuries which has been inherited by the professional musicians of the present as also to inspire them for the future. In order to meet, to some extent the needs of all students and the lovers of music, a strenuous attempt has been made to provide correct information's relating to the existing melo-dies, most of them are also prescribed for the students of B.A.II Music. We know it fully well that music solaces every one in adversity and inspires him/her in prosperity. According to Moliere, "music unites the whole human race in love and peace. If all men learn music, would it not be a means of agreeing together in concort and establishing universal peace in the world?" Undoubtedly mu-sic rouses or benumbs, calms or perturbs us, makes us laugh or weep, rejoices or mourns, according to the techniquies employeed the genuis of the master. Before describing the contents of my book, it becomes my religious duty to trace the past graph of music during the past centuries. Lovers of Music of this generation must know that the status of music in India, at the beginning of the first quater of this era, was in a precarious condition for want of proper culture and sports. Owing to this fact the glorious art of music of the past fell into the hands of those who were neither educated not cultured. Hence the standard of classical music of India suffered a serious set back. Apart from all these, the system of music that was cur-rent and followed by almost all musicians of the North was know as the "Rag-Ragini" system. Besides, the 'Ras' theory, which originated from "Natayashala", injected in the 'Ragas' emotiones and sentiments.
