Nationalism as an ideology was derived from the European idea of a 'nation state'. 'The nation which was defined by Rabindranath Tagore ""as the aspect of a whole people, as an organized power. This organization incessantly keeps up the insistence of the population on becoming strong and efficient."" The ideology is basically a fruit of the 15th century European renaissance. Later on, the ""Declaration of the Right of Man"" during the French Revolution had further strengthened the ideology. It is almost impossible to find a uniform definition of nationalism. Elie Kedourie, while defining nationalism as a ""doctrine invented in Europe at the beginning of the 19th century"", commented that, the sense of 'individual liberty' or 'self determination' was romanticized and manifested itself into the nationalist ideology. It is the most potent ideology in consolidation of a nation state. Therefore, nationalism has a broad meaning ranging from defining the ideology of political movements seeking some form of autonomy or independent statehood, of groups striving to achieve or to improve their cultural, political, social and economic rights within a given state.
